Not Sure About Downloading?

It's not so long since I was exactly where you are in terms of everything being new, so, believe me, I understand. I'll give you the hows and wheres in plain, "down to earth" English, which is the concept on which our program, HOMEwise, is based.

First, print this message so that you can refer to it as you go along, and follow the steps below. To return to the previous page, click your browser's Back button.

To download HOMEwise:

  1. Read then print this message;
  2. Go to your "C" drive and make a new directory called "DLOADS", meaning downloads;
  3. Close the "C" drive window;
  4. Reconnect to the internet then go to our web site: http://www.dtes.com/homewise/
  5. Go to the "Download HOMEwise" page;
  6. Click on the "HOME32.exe" file name;
  7. A window may appear asking something like "How would you like to handle this file?" One of the options should be "Save to disk" so click on that one. It means "transfer this data from this web site to the hard disk in my computer".
  8. Next it will ask where you want to save it to, meaning which directory on your hard drive. Here you will have a window which allows you to scroll through your entire c drive directory. You'll be looking for the "dloads" directory you just made. When you find it, click on it, thereby telling your computer that you want to put this downloaded data into the "dloads" directory. This is customary when downloading so that you can a) keep track of what you have downloaded, and b) delete the download file once the program has been installed - thereby saving disk space - or delete files you download but later decide you don't want. It keeps things tidy.
  9. Click on "OK" and the downloading process will commence. The length of time the download will take will depend on the speed of your modem and the amount of internet traffic at the time of day you are doing this, but at worst it should take no longer than 20 minutes, probably less. The downloading progress window will stay visible until the process is complete. Once it disappears, you're done and ready for the next steps.
  10. When downloading is complete close your internet connection;
  11. Go to your C drive window;
  12. Go to the DLOADS directory;
  13. In there, find "HOME32.exe"
  14. Double click on the file name.
  15. The HOMEwise installation now takes over automatically. It creates a new directory called "HOMEWISE" and installs the program into that directory. Along the way you will need to answer a few basic questions - none difficult - and in a minute or two you'll be done.

HOMEwise 3.2 Evaluation Version is now installed on your computer ready for you to inspect. This is the full retail version, exactly like you would buy in a software store with all features and functions present except that the functions are limited to a certain number of inputs, etc. This allows you to try everything in the program so that you can give it a thorough evaluation. If, after a good look around in the program, you decide you like HOMEwise and want to keep it, follow the steps you'll find at http://www.dtes.com/homewise/buying.html.

That's it. If you have any difficulty along the way just let me know. I will be pleased to help. You can email me at theguys@dtes.com.

Sincerely,

Tony Walton
President
